What was supposed to be an invite only premier of Insomniac’s movie, Electric Daisy Carnival Experience turned into a stand off between EDM fans and LA police officers. The event was set to take place at The Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. World Class DJ Kaskade was supposed to open up with a set at 6pm before the premier.
Kaskade posted on his Facebook and Twitter details of the party which attracted hundreds of fans in front of The Chinese Theatre off Hollywood Blvd and Orange. The crowd eventually grew into the streets and police officers were forced to take action.
LA officers armed with bean bag guns blocked off the streets and moved in on the crowd. Fans refused to leave and became violent and defiant; fans were recorded jumping on parked squad cars and even lit a squad car on fire off of Orange. Cops responded by firing bean bag shots at fans that resisted.
As some of the crowd dispersed, the ones left over kept throwing bottles at police officers moving in on the street. Fans even went to the extremes of planking in the middle of the street to intimidate police officers. It was a long standoff between irritated fans and officers that went on for 3 hours.
Kaskade kept in contact with his fans through twitter, telling them:
“The man trying to shut us down. Hang on I am coming!!! This is crazy”
Later on after police officers had arrived he tweeted:
“EVERYONE CHILL NOW!!! The block party has officially been shut down!”
“EVERYONE NEEDS TO GO HOME NOW! I DON’T WANT THIS TO REFLECT BADLY ON EDM OR WHAT WE ARE ABOUT. BE RESPECTFUL AND CHILL OUT!!!”
The show and premier were both canceled along with the after party at Suppaclub, where Kaskade was also supposed to perform at after the movie premier.
Insomniac released a statement about the recent events and expressed their disappointment.
